he Monastery of Saint John of Kapsa

The Monastery of Saint John of Kapsa is located 9 km east of Makris Gialos, near Goudoura. It is a dependency of the Toplou Monastery near Sitia and is dedicated to the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, which is celebrated on August 29th.

The Kapsa Monastery is built like a fortress on a steep rocky slope above the sea, at the exit of the beautiful Pervolakia Gorge. In front of the monastery is the picturesque pebble beach of Kapsa.
